The rather boring update that is OS X Yosemite

I’ve had OS X 10.10 Yosemite on my Macbook Pro for a few weeks now. And I have got to say, it’s pretty boring. The differences between Yosemite and the previous Mavericks are minute and mostly visual. So, once again, get ready for a slightly different upgrade that you wait a whole year for.

For the most part the changes in this new version of Mac OS X are visual. One major change is the new dock. In Yosemite, the dock is now transparent, more rounded, and doesn’t appear to tilt like the dock does in the older versions. Here’s a good look at the new dock and the top bar.

I think one of the best parts of Yosemite is the improved notification center. With it, you can instantly get your local weather forecast for the week, see any new notifications, and get summaries of your days.

Another notable update is Safari 8.o. The entire UI has had a facelift and I think It looks quite a bit more attractive.

As you can see above, Safari looks a little different. Aside from Safari, the only other new feature I feel is worth mentioning is Facetime calls. With Yosemite, you can make and receive audio or video facetime calls right from your Mac.

Overall, Yosemite is a nice update. There’s just enough changes to make it worth the (free) update.
