Upcoming Bloodborne Expansion Confirmed

Just when you finally beat the game, From Software throws another curve-ball: a Bloodborne expansion is currently in development. That means it’s probably a good idea to get most, if not all, the Chalice Dungeons done prior to this, since it’s not even DLC, it’s an entire expansion. Chances are, it’ll be time-consuming.

So far, no release date has been set, and no further details have been given other than what Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment’s World Wide Studios, posted on Twitter just yesterday. He also confirmed that more information will be released this year, although late.

To many avid fans, this news comes as a fact of life, rather than surprising, but the astonishing part is that they skipped over the DLC phenomenon currently taking games by storm. There have been many issues where players have felt as though the DLC was the redeeming factor in a game, after being released with multiple glitches. Between patches, updates, and new content, the whole situation has become more about opinion, than fact.

Clearly, Bloodborne wanted no part in it. This is very different than their approach with Dark Souls 2 was, which had three DLC packs.

Despite not having too many details just yet, what is known is how well Bloodborne has sold. As Sony’s UK Boss Fergal Gara explained:

“We had expectations to do well. We looked at the Souls series as a frame of reference, and we thought we could do better than that. We did—and then some. Relative to some of our sister territories, we were being quite ambitious, but even that proved to be conservative.”

Judging by this, it’s safe to say the expansion will do well too.
