Our relationship with God is something that is very personal. So I have to be careful with how I handle this subject, but something I can tell you for certain is that you should always be working to deepen your relationship with God.
Faith is a journey. We go through seasons, and sometimes we may feel far from God. But what we need to understand is that God is never far from us. Anytime is the right time to get your relationship with God back to where it needs to be.
I’m going to list five ways we can work to improve our relationship with God.
1. Have a routine
Something that will help you immensely is having a routine. In the mornings before you get out of bed, pray. Or if that sounds like a bad idea to you, try praying before you go to bed.
Either way, if you don’t already have a certain time carved out for a prayer, make one! It’ll help you so much.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but don’t forget to pray. Prayer is powerful, and incredibly beneficial for our relationship with God.
3. Meditate on the word
You don’t need to memorize the word. You need to meditate on it and let it soak into your heart. Don’t read it just to read it. Believe and ask God that what you read could be real for you and touch you.
“I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” – Psalm 16:8
The word of God is health to our bodies (Proverbs 4:22), so it’s really important to carve out some time from our schedules to include meditation / reading time.
4. Find someone to help you
Finding someone you’re comfortable talking about God with is crucial. If you can find a spiritually-sound person to pour into you, you’ll be thankful.
5. Listen to teachings
Audio or video teachings are an excellent way to gain Biblical understanding and deepen your relationship in some cases.
Here’s a brief list of recommended teachers:
- Todd White
- Dan Mohler
- Francis Chan
That’s only three. There are a lot more great teachers but those three will challenge you to go deeper in your relationship with the Lord.
