Actress Gwendoline Christie, who’s known for as Brienne of Tarth in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has confirmed that she will be in the next Star Wars.
Christie played the role of Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and though her part was minimal, many fans loved her character. The actress told People magazine on Saturday that she will indeed be in the next space opera.
“I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually,”
If you haven’t already seen The Force Awakens, there’s something wrong with you and you may want to skip over the next paragraph because there are a couple spoilers.
At the end of The Force Awakens, the audience can’t be sure whether Captain Phasma survives or not. Han Solo mentions throwing Phasma into a garbage compactor and then the scene cuts. Later, the Starkiller base in which Captain Phasma was operating blew up, so it would have been reasonable to assume that she had died.
Gwendoline is super excited about being able to continue playing the first female stormtrooper.
“I felt it encouraged diversity and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women, and I hope that in something that was such a mainstream success it would breed more of those kind of opportunities for other women.”
Some people may be wondering why Captain Phasma is coming back, since the character is rather pointless to the story. The only real reason is because she looks cool and fans dig her.
I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to December 15 2017 when Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released.
