The country is once again nearing the point at which we elect our new president. This is the first time Oatboat is endorsing a candidate.
As this is our first endorsement, we put a lot of thought into which candidate (if any) we would support.
If you’ve read any of Oatboat’s political pieces before, you may have noticed a libertarian tilt to our writing. We’re very open about this but it may be confusing as to why a libertarian-leaning publication would endorse Donald Trump. Let us explain.
We believe Mr. Trump’s policies *more closely align with libertarianism
We chose the phrase “more closely” carefully. Trump is by no means a libertarian or even close to being one for that matter. He is however, much closer to libertarian ideals than is Mrs. Clinton.
We believe Donald Trump can disrupt Washington D.C.
The below quote from the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s endorsement of Trump sums up our endorsement well.
“Mr. Trump represents neither the danger his critics claim nor the magic elixir many of his supporters crave. But he promises to be a source of disruption and discomfort to the privileged, back-scratching political elites for whom the nation’s strength and solvency have become subservient to power’s pursuit and preservation.”
The disruption that Trump could cause in the capitol might lead to Libertarian ideals actually advancing down the road. If Hillary’s elected, the country will continue to head in a socialistic, progressive direction that is at odds with everything Libertarians believe in.
We further believe that Hillary Clinton is wholly unfit for office. She is likely the most corrupt politician to ever run for the White House. If we elect her, America will be endorsing corrupt, self-obsessed politicians.
And so, we’ve found that the imperfections of Trump are much less egregious than those of Hilary’s.
Trump for president.
